Long Arm Classes

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION ON REGISTRATION UNDER "SHOW: INFORMATION" BEFORE REGISTERING TO AVOID MISTAKES THAT MAY DELAY YOUR REGISTRATION. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE TIMES OF THE LECTURES AND CLASSES SO YOU DON'T ACCIDENTALLY CHOOSE CLASSES OR LECTURES THAT OVERLAP. IF YOU DO, IT WILL RESERVE YOUR SPACE IN BOTH AND WILL RESULT IN YOU BEING CHARGED FOR BOTH ITEMS. WHEN REQUESTING A REFUND, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO CHARGE THE ADMINISTRATIVE CHARGE OUTLINED IN OUR POLICIES TO RETURN THE CLASS/LECTURE TO INVENTORY.

Supply Lists may be found at the end of each class description or by clicking "Supply List" for a downloadable pdf you can print out. No other supply lists will be sent unless indicated in the description. Kit and/or pattern fees are to be paid to the instructor at the time of the class unless stated otherwise.

Lecture and evening activities can be found towards the bottom of this page. Right below the class descriptions are the times of the class, the cost of the class (not counting any kit/pattern/handout fees) and the total available spaces left in the class.

Irons and Ironing boards are furnished for those workshops needing them.

Abbreviations used in the supply lists:

BSS: Basic Sewing Supplies: needles, thread to match project, pins, marking  pencil/pens, ruler, seam ripper, thimble, needles threader, fabric scissors, paper scissors.

RCM: Rotary cutter and mat (large mats are better), ruler (6" x 24" unless specified different measurements)

SM: Sewing machine in good order with extra bobbins, extension cord, manual, threads to match fabric. If an asterisk (*) appears beside SM, then it means that there are machines already furnished for this class.

PPS: Note taking paper, drawing paper (unlined), lead pencil, eraser, ruler, paper scissors, masking tape, Scotch tape, glue stick.

 





 

  

LA010 MYSTICAL FEATHERS 1 - Jamie Wallen

 
   
HANDS ON! Join Jamie and explore all feather forms including traditional, non-traditional and stylized. Then discover how to use these options in allovers and any custom shapes you run into in your client and personal quilts. This class is exclusively dedicated to feather work. If you've wanted to learn and apply a myriad of new, as well as classic feather styles, then this is the class for you! This class applies to all levels of longarm, midarm, shortarm or hand quilters. KIT FEE OF $15 covers top, batting and backing needed for this class.

SUPPLIES: snips and pencil/pen and notebook for note taking if desired.

LA011 START YOUR ENGINE - I MEAN YOUR STATLER! - Georgia Stull

Edge-to-edge basics that get you started. We know it's your bread and butter! All Statler users need to know some basics! Georgia will cover Creative Studio basics, teach how to set Controller Definitions, teach shortcuts and Hot Keys, and share different methods of quilting edge-to-edge patterns. Did you know there are many ways to do an e2e? Georgia will teach you how to use e2e and Repeat Pattern mode. She will also teach how to alternate, concatenate, trim and fill, plus recovery methods for those times that problems arise. She's not shy about passing along lots of practical tips and tidbits to help you have a great quilting experience with your Statler. Georgia will provide a detailed handout on a USB drive for your convenience. Two hour demo/lecture loaded with useful information. Handout fee: $5 payable to instructor at time of class.

LA012 QUALIFYING - BEAUTIFUL BORDERS - Georgia Stull

Put the hammer down for beautiful borders! Borders can add a powerful framework for a quilt. Don't dread adding borders. Become a pro! This class will cover as much about borders as Georgia can pack into 2 hours! She will start with how to choose the perfect pattern to enhance that quilt top and the preparation work that is so important. Next up, she will teach you her Easy Peasy method of quilting out those borders. (Not kidding - it really is EASY PEASY!) She will also cover how to quilt some of those "special" borders - applique and multiple borders. She will provide a detailed handout on a USB drive for each students' convenience. Two hour demo/lecture packed with useful information. Handout fee: $5 payable to instructor at time of class.

LA013 MYSTICAL FLORAL LEAVES AND VINES - Jamie Wallen

 
   
HANDS-ON!! Quilters can find as much diversity in surface quilting with florals as there is with feathers. "Mystical Florals" covers florals, leaves, and vine variations that will make your quilts take root in creativity. Students will learn a myriad of designs using these elements for your customer and personal quilting and apply them to edge-to-edge, custom blocks, borders and sash designs. LA014 CONSIDERING THE PURCHASE OF A LONGARM?- Michelle Eno and Val Schlake

This class is for anyone considering the purchase of a longarm quilting machine. Valerie Schlake and Michelle Eno will go through the many FABs (features, advantages, benefits) you should consider when purchasing a longarm quilting system. This class will help you understand what questions to ask and what you should consider while doing your research of the many varieties available in today's market. There are so many things to consider whether you are considering a machine for business or simply quilting for personal use. You will leave this class prepared with the information needed to make the right choice by understanding what to ask, allowing you to make a sound educated decisiion based on your specific wants and needs. LA015 WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN STARTING A LONGARM BUSINESS- Eno & Schlake

Round table discussion. Join Valerie Schlake and Michelle Eno as they share a combined 25 years of experience running a profitable and successful longarm quilting business. They will discuss many of the "dos and don'ts" when quilting for hire. This class is a must for those just beginning their journey into quilting for others. Val and Michelle will answer questions and concerns along with sound advice to be considered when quilting for hire. Handouts are included.

LA021 IT'S A PHOTO FINISH - Georgia Stull

You can do custom quilting that just begs to be photographed, and you can do it on your Statler. Quite honestly, Georgia doesn't do a lot of hand guiding. Okay ... maybe not any hand guiding. That single fact drives her to figure out ways to make Creative Studio work for her! (She's proud to say that her longarm guild members asked when she started hand guiding!) She also wants her custom quilting to be as efficient and effective as possible and she always wants it to be beautiful. She will cover features such as Point-to-Point, Fill, Trim and Echo. You will become best friends with your right-click menu. Who knows? Maybe there will be all new features to learn about! As always, she will provide a detailed, step-by-step handout on a USB drive for your convenience ($5 handout fee payable to her at the time of the class).This is a three hour class/demo/lecture packed with information!

LA022 VICTORY LAP! - Georgia Stull

Time to bring it in for the victory lap. Statler users, it is time to learn how to access the power of Stand Alone Mode! You can work in SAM on another computer while your Statler is "working" on a quilt. Working in SAM will greatly improve your skills as a CS user. You will also learn how to "build" a quilt in SAM in order to audition quilt designs. As always, Georgia will provide a detailed, step-by-step handout on a USB drive for your convenience. Three hour class/demo/lecture. Handout fee: $5.

LA024 NO MORE TENSION HEADACHES - Val Schlake and Michelle Eno

We have all had those dreaded tension headaches when quilting with our longarm machines. Finally, Val  and Michelle teach a practical step-by-step approach to perfect tension through understanding the fundamentals and the steps to achieve that perfect stitch. Beginning with understanding how machine tension functions and how the stitch is made is essential. Students will learn the when, why and how to make tension adjustments and the cause and effects of each adjustment made. Those taking the class will leave with the knowledge and confidence to achieve that perfect stitch no matter the brand of machine or threads you choose. Handouts are included.

LA035 LONGARM BASICS - "I HAVE A BEAST IN MY BASEMENT"- Eno & Schlake

This class, taught by Valerie Schlake and Michelle Eno, is an informal setting designed to tame that beast. Get answers to your questions while Val and Michelle help you to understand the fundamentals of getting started as a longarm quilter. Starting with a solid foundation and understanding of the basics will prepare you for your own journey through longarm quilting. This class is desinged to help you to tame the beast starting with how to care and feed your machine, load a quilt effectively and make machine adjustments just to name a few. If you feel you have a monster in your sewing room, join Val and Michelle and turn the beast into your best friend. Open forum setting provides the opportunity for your questions and concerns. Your experienced teachers will share many tips and tricks to get started on the right foot and explore the many possibilities of longarm quilting. Class demonstrations and handouts are included.
